    The past week has witnessed a series of cyber events in the Crypto space, numerous significant hacks and scams on decentralized platforms, social media, and blockchain initiatives have been reported. Let’s have a look at the detailed breakdown of the incidents

    Dawn Internet Hack: Telegram Bots Take Advantage

    On January 15 the decentralized wireless network project Dawn Internet was hacked. Several hackers had a field day and managed to take control of the project’s X (formerly Twitter) and managed to use it to post phishing messages. At first, these tweets had direct hand phishing links but then led the users to Telegram where more dangerous bots like SafeguardsAuthenticationRobot resided and lured users into inputting their crypto details.

    Mosaic Exchange Fraud: $1.1 Million Penalty Over Deceptive Marketing

    Mosaic Exchange Ltd and its CEO, Sean Michael, were prosecuted by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, whereby penalties of more than $ 1.1 million were levied on them due to a fraudulent digital asset scheme. Trading profits, assets under management, and partnerships that the firm inflated from 2019 to 2021 are included in their charges. 

    Chainalysis Boosts Fraud Identification via Alterya Purchase

    Chainalysis, a blockchain analytics firm has bought AI fraud detection company Alterya for $150m. Alterya, which specializes in monitoring cryptocurrency circulation and fighting fraudulent activity has more than $8 billion in transaction traffic per month. This smart acquisition expands Chainalysis’s ability to combat unlawful operations and increase the security of the virtual currency industry.

    Unilend Finance Exploit: Around $197,600 Stolen Through the Exploit Redeem Vulnerability

    Decentralized finance platform UniLend Finance’s platform was compromised, with $197,600 stolen. Most schemes targeted the redeem function, misleading collateral share prices so as to gain control of ownership and embezzle user’s money.

    7 Million Email Addresses Leaked in Opensea Breach

    The Ripple effects of OpenSea’s email provider hack are still being felt. An old list of 7 million email addresses is being used in phishing scams. Burglars then utilize this data to make probable emails that will deceive victims into opening fake sites or permitting the spread of malware. Influencers and big personalities like CZ from Binance have also had their emails leaked

    Other Small Incidents

    Moonray discord hack; Bogus airdrop messages were used to trick users in a hack on Moonray discord

    Foresight ventures and Litecoin’s X account were compromised and phishing links were posted which were later removed by the teams.

    BUIDL contract vulnerability; An agreement on Binance Smart Chain was hacked, and $8,000 was stolen.
